Examination authority
All India Institute of Medical Sciences
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences was created by Act of Parliament in 1956 — Act No. 25 of that year — which declared it an Institute of National Importance in its own text, a status since extended to the newer AIIMS campuses set up under the same Act at other locations. AIIMS New Delhi, the original campus, conducts INI-CET on behalf of the AIIMS group and the other Institutes of National Importance — JIPMER and PGIMER among them — a common entrance test for their MD, MS and super-specialty seats. A seat at a medical college outside this group is a separate admission, through NEET PG rather than INI-CET.

Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test
INI-CET is the common entrance test for MD, MS, MDS, DM and MCh seats at the Institutes of National Importance — the AIIMS campuses, JIPMER, PGIMER and NIMHANS among them. AIIMS New Delhi conducts it on their collective behalf, twice a year. It governs admission only to seats at these institutes; seats at other medical colleges are filled through NEET PG, conducted separately by the National Board of Examinations.
